This month, we travel to the USA for a pair of mysteries set in American cities. First up is an early case for Sherlock Holmes as he hunts for an arsonist in New York.

Before Dr. Watson and before Baker Street, Sherlock Holmes enjoyed a brief but successful career as an actor. The latest two-volume collection of adventures from Belanger Books, Sherlock Holmes Takes the Stage, explores this neglected facet of Holmes’s life with eighteen exciting new stories featuring his theatrical exploits.

My adventure, The Fires of Hell, finds Sherlock Holmes in New York performing as Mephistopheles in Dr. Faustus. On stage, special effects are being used to simulate demonic flames. However, outside in the city, far more deadly fires rage. An arsonist is at large, and it will take Holmes’s skills of detection to stop him.
