Grave Secrets

Sherlock Holmes is in mourning and not taking on new cases, but Mr. Melas thinks he’s being haunted. Can he persuade the great detective to help him? After all, this is not just any spirit. It is The Ghost of Mycroft Holmes!

The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories: Part XLVIII - Cover

This story is my latest contribution to The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories. Since 2015, this record-breaking collection has been raising money to support the school at Undershaw, former home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The theme of these latest volumes is Occupants of the Canonical Realm, and The Ghost of Mycroft Holmes features the return of Mr. Melas, better known as The Greek Interpreter. It is set in 1911, as tensions are rising in Europe. With war on the horizon and diplomatic efforts failing, it is the worst possible time to lose the man who “occasionally [was] the British Government.” But was his death simply the result of his notoriously sedentary lifestyle, or are darker forces at work?

The Ghost of Mycroft Holmes appears in Part XLVIII of The MX Collection of New Sherlock Holmes Stories, the third of three new volumes of this massive collection of traditional Sherlock Holmes pastiches, edited by David Marcum. As with previous volumes, all royalties will go to support the Undershaw school for special needs children, based in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s former home. They are available to pre-order now through Kickstarter at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mxpublishing/the-mx-book-of-new-sherlock-holmes-stories-xlvi-to-xlviii.
