Magnificent Detectives and Flying Machines
My latest case for Sherlock Holmes takes us into an alternative universe. The world is on the brink of war, but this war will be fought in the air.
The setting for this story is taken from the work of H.G. Wells. In his 1908 novel, The War in the Air, he foresaw a war coming that would engulf the world. This story proved to be closer to reality than his visions of time machines, alien invasions, and invisible men. My story The Aeronaut’s Last Flight finds Holmes and Watson working to prevent an advanced aircraft from falling into the wrong hands, in the final days before the war.
It is just one of the stories inspired by the work of H.G. Wells that appears in the two volumes of Sherlock Holmes: Further Adventures in the Realms of H.G. Wells, the latest short story collection from Belanger Books. The twenty-five new cases for Holmes and Watson feature a wide range of characters and settings from Wells’s famous and less well-known works.
Both volumes are currently available to pre-order on Kickstarter at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/belangerbooks/sherlock-holmes-new-adventures-in-the-realms-of-hg-wells. The campaign, which hit its initial funding goal within the first half hour, runs until 8 September 2021, and the books are due to be published in November.
